As an American, I hang my head in shame. Loosen up your pants and learn how to use the English Language. What a moron.
Agreed. What a fucking dipshit. Why do people support idiots like that. Tell him to fuck himself.
I have been biting my tongue. But yes I totally agree with you both. What a total idiot, I would just cut your losses and retain your dignity. Do you really want to continue building his ego ?
Head perfectly up his own ass. You wouldn't take a reply like that from anyone else making you something fairly low tech (yes! low tech!!) Especially when done incorrectly in the first instance. Its a money back, or new board situation and he's managed to persuade you to take a used nonspecific board in return at his convenience. The rest of his reply really sums up what a wanker he has become. There was a time where I heard more good of RK but of late nothing.
What robin doesn't hand shape every board. Next thing your going to tell me is that Richard kenvin doesn't shape any of the hydrodynamica boards. If I was you I would go right to the source and give Jim Phillips a call. He is the one who designed all of the plugs for robin to cut his boards off of.
I think the guy before me was on to something. The way I see it, judging by your photos you should be pumped. It looks like you may have actually received a hand shaped board by robin.
no one is putting their name to this so I will...
If I made the wrong board for a customer without telling them I made some changes to the model, and they didn't like it, I'd have to make them a NEW one. No one would let me say, Oh you can have a USED BOARD from my personal quiver that I'm going to trash all over Europe...
Why should someone from the US get any other treatment?! For fucks sake, get over yourselves. It is a surfboard, not a fucking Van Gogh.
All you guys that suck the dicks of any and all things American because it is "different" need to wake the fuck up and take some pride in yourselves.
Dora is probably rolling in his grave...
This is unreal.
There's only ONE option. Make a NEW one for you.
That's not the surfboard you asked for and Robin only has to apologise and make you a new one. Simple as that.
And thinking that I almost got that guy to Portugal!!!!
The way I see it Chris is that Robin should cough up or shape you a new board. Problem you now have is that he's so 'k-k-k-krazy' and 'off the wall' that his image has surpassed doing the right thing. I hope this works out for you. Rob has a good point - he's just a bloke making boards...a number of folk in your neck of the woods can make the same board from a template etc, the right rockers are available in US blanks. Less hassle in the long run and way way more reliable. You'd be surprised what templates are hanging around.
I also understand Chris that you wanted a narrow template single fin from someone who shapes and rides that outline often. A logical decision, just a shame you got your fingers burnt.
Long and short is that I personally wouldn't take a second hand board from a cocky shit who's going to look back one day and ask himself 'why was I such a prick back then' sadly I think his image is fueled a few bare footed minutes on VBS and general smoke blowing. Personally I liked it all best when they just made good looking boards with a little artistic flare with the resin and prints....
Recon it'll pan out...as long as you feel comfortable with the deal thats the main thing...all this is just opinion. Best of luck old chap.
In the words of Roy Stewart (without consent) "Bloody awful boards anyway, just mals really, I don't buy the 'advancing single fin longboards' line at all. Being scatterbrained does not make one a genius"
Not an insult RK, just fucking funny! he's growing on me.
once bitten twice shy and all that!
Rest assured that i am keeping my mind and options open regarding RK and his offer. I'm not gonna give him a pristine board for an abused P os S.
I would like something positive to come out of the episode if thats possible and i hope posting this story might make him think for half a second before taking advantage next time
yes, well, my comments may have been harsh, but I'm so over the whole cool kids club. It is just ridiculous to me that there can be such a "scene" fueled by an image of avant garde showman ship... Don't get me wrong, that applies to UK brands as well, and anyone that portrays themselves as above anyone else just because they ride/wear/listen to something specific...
The fact that Robin is a good surfer helps, and like I said he seemed a nice enough guy when i met him. But, he is clearly taking the piss, and I can't believe anyone would let him get away with it. By that, I don't me just Jory, but who ever got their board a foot shorter, or whatever. What's up with the passive aggressive insults as well?
You wouldn't accept that treatment from a local guy, or any other US brand, why should he get away with it just because he's an artist? Fuck that crap. Sorry Robin, but that doesn't fly with me at all.
Experimentation is brilliant, but it should be done on your own dime, not at the expense of (uninformed) customers.
Good luck CP, I hope you get it sorted.
HI CP,
If you still have it in July, I would love to buy you your board.
I am kind attracted to it, even with that extra narrow nose...There is some waves around here in France, where it could suit nicely!
I will go back to you around June/July
